My 2013 Year-ender
After reading my previous year-enders, I feel like I need to write this one to continue the year-ender writing tradition that I have started way back in 2009.
2013 is a wonderful year filled with many adventures, life lessons and most of all, my amazing walk with God.
Back in January, my sister and I started to join a discipleship group in our church which helps us in our spiritual journey, establishes
relationship with God and to be a disciple. I never thought I would be part of an amazing group - our group Leader Lizel, my sister and I. During Sundays, we would meet together right after the church service. We talked about God most of the time and we really had a lot of things to say and questions to ask as well. I started to have my journal and I would write down reflections after reading bible verses.
2013 also taught me lessons on friendship and I was glad that everything went well after some challenges. I learned to be more loving, more forgiving and more careful with my words even in challenging times wherein it is difficult to be gentle and loving.
I also worked hard during 2013. There were lots of work and lots of overtimes as well but I endured them all with a never-give-up spirit because I knew/know God was with me and is with me. People have already come and go in our workplace which saddened me. I am glad that I still meet my officemate/friend during commuting at the most unexpected times! We surprised each other by mere coincidence. We would even wave at each other from opposite side of the street. That was how we crossed paths haha :)
I also went to Denmark for a business trip with my officemates. It was my first time to go to an European country! I was really happy and nervous at the same time. It was also my first time to travel without my family. I enjoyed a lot and had so many adventures with my officemates. We were supposed to stay there for 3 weeks and then we got extended for another week. Many thought that we went there to have vacation because of all the pictures that we have posted in our own facebook accounts! But no kidding, we worked so hard there, we even went home at 11PM after solving all the issues in production. Well, not really all though. There were still other issues after that day. Still, it was fun and it was nice to experience working with our Danish counterparts. Also, we visited so many tourist spots - the Little Mermaid, castles, museums, zoo, amusement parks, canal tour (boat ride). For the first time, I rode like 5 roller coasters in a day! I could not believe how I did that. I am really scared when it comes to riding roller coasters but being with my office mates who were so eager to ride on all of those rides, I couldn’t help but join them and it was amazing! :) It was really fast especially when it was about to go dooowwwnn. I also tried archery and shooting in those arcade games that they have in their amusement park. I also had my first-ever running marathon - 5K! It was really tiring. It was a fun experience overall. I enjoyed the food as well and I also liked their Frankfurt hotdogs, their open-faced sandwiches, the delicious pork roast and potatoes. I also enjoyed all the beautiful architectures, breathtaking sceneries, the good looking people ala models, their awesome culture and language. We did get lost somehow but the good thing was that my officemate was very helpful in navigating. I thank God that everything went well and also for my family who have been praying for me. I also learned a lot during that trip and somehow I was able to experience being “independent”. I realized and learned that I should have been more proactive and more sociable/open which I lacked a bit at that time.
One defining moment was when my siblings and I had our church retreat and water baptism. Finally! It is a retreat that deepens our relationship with God and establishes strong spiritual foundation.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" - 2 Corinthians 5:17
"and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.[a] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ" 1 Peter 3:21
I hope to make disciples someday. I hope to know God more and be more disciplined in many areas of my life - spiritual, work, personal, habits and etc.
And for the first time, my siblings and I joined the fun run (a fundraising event to help scholars to continue their education). Such a great cause and a good exercise as well so we did not hesitate to join. That fun run was my first in the Philippines. :)
I was quite hesitant to try paintball for our Year-end activity because I did not like the thought of getting bruises. I did join in the end and it was such an experience! We wore a body gear with helmet and we played in teams trying to get the opponent’s flag by shooting their people. I tried to be safe by hiding in bunkers and just shoot ala sniper! :) I was glad I did not have bruises and I did not get hit by the opponents! Whew! We won the elimination round but then I went home afterwards because some of my team mates wanted to go home.
Towards the end of the year, I had awesome bondings with my few friends and family. It was good that they are all doing well and even if we have our own ups and downs in life, I know God is bigger than those problems that we have. I always view the hardships and the downs as blessings because they really are! :)
This is also the year wherein I read a lot of Christian books. Indeed, they are worth reading and very enlightening! ^_^ (If only more and more people will read that kind of books) ;)
It was also the year that my sister got engaged! So happy for them! :)
There is so much to be grateful about and I thank God for everything! :)
Cheers to 2014! Happy new year to all! ^_^
